Dale Brown

Chairman of the Board

Dale Brown is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Petroleum Strategies. He is a CPA and longstanding leader in the oil & gas industry. Dale started this company three decades ago due to the demand for this specialized tax-deferred service within the oil & gas industry sector. The company has grown organically because many successful energy companies with similar capital gains issues sought a trustworthy tax deferral partner. While Dale has had many successes in his esteemed career (including serving as a principal and board member instrumental in taking Legacy Reserves, LP public, NASDAQ symbol LGCY), he remains engaged as the Chairman of the Board of the company.

Alan Brown

President

Alan Brown has been a licensed attorney in Texas for over 25 years as a transactional and corporate attorney and was formerly a partner at the Midland, Texas law firm of Lynch, Chappell & Alsup. He serves as President and General Counsel for Petroleum Strategies. He previously served as CEO of Carbon Creek Energy, a private equity-backed energy company with assets in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Alan holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Abilene Christian University and a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University.

Cary D. Brown

Vice President

Cary Brown has served on the boards of multiple public and private oil and natural gas exploration and production companies during his career. Mr. Brown co-founded two businesses, Moriah Resources, Inc. and Petroleum Strategies. Moriah Resources, Inc. was formed in 1992 to acquire oil and natural gas reserves. Petroleum Strategies was formed in 1991 to serve as a qualified intermediary in connection with the execution of Section 1031 transactions for major oil companies, public independents and private oil and natural gas companies.

Mr. Brown has served as Vice President of Petroleum Strategies, Inc. since its inception in 1991. Mr. Brown served as an auditor for Grant Thornton in Midland, Texas from January 1991 to June 1991 and for Touche Ross in Houston, Texas from June 1989 to December 1990. Mr. Brown has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with honors, from Abilene Christian University.

Mark Nierenberg

Executive Vice President

Mark Nierenberg is the Executive Vice President and day-to-day director of the company’s sales and business development. Mark is a licensed attorney in Colorado with over 25 years of experience in transactional work for corporate energy and real estate clients. Nierenberg is an accomplished 1031 tax-deferred exchange specialist, having facilitated thousands of exchanges as the in-house bank Qualified Intermediary provider for JPMorgan Chase, Washington Mutual, and Commercial Capital Bank. Mark's legal and banking background serves as an ongoing resource for oil & gas clients, supporting their complex exchanges to maximize their tax deferral opportunities. Mark has day-to-day contact with clients and adds value by connecting clients to property brokers, auction houses, Delaware Statutory Trusts, tax advisors, and legal counsel.  Mark has a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of law.

Lauri Keller

Vice President of Operations

Lauri Keller is the Exchange Manager and Vice President of Operations. She is a CPA licensed in Texas. She began her career in the tax department at Main Hurdman in Midland, Texas. She also served as an auditor for Johnson, Miller & Co., CPA's PC, one of the oldest and largest certified public accounting firms in the Permian Basin of West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. Lauri has also worked as a Financial Reporting Manager for Carbon Creek Energy, a private equity-backed energy company. Lauri has a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from Boise State University.

Matthew Martinez

Chief Accounting Officer

Matthew Martinez is the Chief Accounting Officer for Petroleum Strategies and its parent company, the Moriah Group, and works at the headquarters office in Midland. His growing role at Petroleum Strategies revolves around the management of the client's 1031 exchange accounts, which includes the movement of funds for replacement property purchases, exchange account reconciliation, the opening of new exchange bank accounts, and the drafting of exchange closing Summaries to be used when filing exchangor's tax returns. Matthew graduated from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a Bachelors of Accounting. He is a tireless and meticulous worker and provides clients with top-notch customer service on all accounting matters.
